Three ways change happens
In order for real change to happen, we need to come at things from three different angles: the people in power, the people affected, and ourselves as individuals. Some actions put pressure on governments, corporations and other institutions. Some directly support people and communities affected by crisis. Others help us understand the history and context behind what is happening.

Write to elected officials, sign petitions, vote, protest, organise, boycott and use your voice to push governments, corporations and other institutions to act.

Give practical or financial support to people and communities affected by crisis, whether through fundraisers, mutual aid or trusted organisations working on the ground.
Understand the bigger picture
Learn about the history, context and perspectives behind an issue. The more we understand, the better equipped we are to make informed choices, recognise patterns and know where our actions can have the most impact.
Some days your act might be a donation or a petition. Other days, it might be learning something that helps explain the bigger picture on a specific issue. These three forms of action reinforce one another. The more of all three we do, as individuals and as a society, the greater our chances of creating meaningful change.

- We personally curate daily acts from trusted organisations, campaigns and individuals already doing important work. We aim for a balance of humanitarian causes throughout the week, and select a handful of alternatives each day so you still have meaningful ways to help if you're unable to do the main act.
- Your daily streak goes up by one each day you select “I did this” on an act. Your acts counter, meanwhile, increases for every individual act you complete and won’t reset if you miss a day. We’re working on user accounts so you’ll be able to save your progress across devices. For now, your streak and acts count are stored in your browser, so clearing your browser data may reset them.
- Sometimes, the most useful thing you can do is take the time to understand an issue better. Learning about what’s happening, listening to the people affected and understanding the wider context can help you make more informed choices and take more meaningful action in the future. Not every good act has to be something visible. Sometimes, learning is where it starts.
- No. When an act involves donating, we link you directly to the fundraiser, charity or organisation. One Good Act a Day doesn’t process your payment, receive your money or take a percentage of your donation.
- We aim to make doing one good act a day as achievable as possible, so we always include a handful of alternative acts. If the main one isn’t possible for you, you can choose another meaningful way to help.
- Not yet, but you can add One Good Act a Day to your phone's home screen and it works similarly to an app. On iPhone, tap the share button in Safari or Chrome, then 'Add to Home Screen.' On Android, look for 'Add to Home Screen' in your browser's menu. Then it will sit on your home screen like your other apps.
